University of Colorado Denver’s College of Arts and Media invites applications for our Master of Science in Recording Arts (MSRA) program. MSRA offers teachings and research training in all aspects of recorded music and sound art, including recording, sampling, mixing, mastering, production, sound design, composition, sequencing, calibration, live sound reinforcement, network audio technology, post-production, and game audio. The program refines student skills in analog and digital music techniques, aesthetics, surround sound, digital signal processing, automated mixing, synchronization, stereo imaging, monitoring, mastering, Foley, adaptive audio, and post-production.

CU Denver’s College of Arts and Media recognizes the need for pedagogy, industry-oriented, and research-based graduate degrees. Our program considers the students’ interests and prepares them best to meet their career goals.

Pedagogy is synonymous with teaching, and this program includes a survey of available resources for audio education explicitly. The curriculum offers an interdisciplinary approach, including physics, acoustics, audio engineering, music, broadcast, medicine, psychology, multimedia, theatre, and film/game/video. The program emphasizes music technology innovation, design, and research/teaching methods development. Working with influential faculty mentors, students are prepared for professional portfolios, networking, and the possibility of entering into a doctoral program through specialized research, creative work, and practical experience in the vibrant arts and cultural scene of the Rocky Mountains Region.

CU Denver’s Master of Science in Recording Arts has the only pedagogy track in the nation. This graduate degree is designed to:
