Dear friend: Experience two evenings of immersive sound in VOICES: Twisting Tongues—a surround‑sound exploration of languages, voices, and evolving technologies this Friday and Saturday (February 20 and 21, 2026) with Miami Sound Choir, Frost Electronic Music Ensemble and Samuel Tommie.
The event honors International Mother Language Day, a UNESCO‑designated celebration promoting linguistic and cultural diversity and the preservation of mother tongues worldwide.
Directed by myself, the performance weaves together multilingual tongue twisters, a polyrhythmic spelling piece, the Slovak Hay Song, an original Seminole song led by Samuel Tommie, computer‑language sequences, graphic scores, and street chants. Audience members will also help generate prompts for AI‑created tongue twisters, interpreted live by both the choir and the electronic ensemble.
Framing the performance, the Language Market—a pop‑up gathering of Miami’s cultural clubs—offers a chance to learn simple phrases and tongue twisters in Arabic, Czech, German, Mandarin, Creole, Slovak, Spanish, Tamil, Vietnamese, and more.
Celebrate the beauty, playfulness, and power of your mother tongue. Join us for an evening of collective voice, connection, and cultural resonance. |
