We’re getting in touch to let you know about the Aides… mémoires… project, an album collaboration between composers Jonty Harrison and Pete Stollery. It comprises short-form acousmatic pieces (3 – 6 mins), each created from a single field recording from our own personal archives, collected over many years in various locations around the world.
The project is delivered via a Google Earth Web sound map – www.bit.ly/aidesmemoires – which can be accessed via any browser on a computer or tablet (the map doesn’t currently function on iOS or Android phones).
Clicking on pins on the map accesses information about each piece and users can listen to a binaural .mp3 version. There is also a link to a form where users can request, free of charge, hi-resolution .wav versions of the piece for concert performance or for personal listening. Available formats include Third Order Ambisonics, 8-channel (both French 8 and Double-Diamond), 5.1, Quad, Stereo and Binaural.
The project is evolutionary and more pieces will be added to the map over time.
