The SPLICE Fellowship Program, now entering its second year, is a free opportunity for emerging performers and composers to engage with music that integrates live performance with electronics. The goal of this Program is to provide a unique avenue for electroacoustic music training, particularly for musicians new to the field. All Fellows will receive private coaching, automatic acceptance to SPLICE Institute 2027, and live performances.
For the upcoming round, SPLICE Music is partnering with the University of Oklahoma.
We are currently accepting applications for Composition Fellows. All Composition Fellows will be paired with Performer Fellows selected from the partnering institutions listed above.

All selected composers will work with Keith Kirchoff on a new work for instrument(s) and electronics. Of those composers, approx. half will write a piece for solo piano, to be performed by Keith. The rest will write a piece for Keith + an unspecified/open instrument. The performers for those instruments will be selected from the host institution.
Composition Fellows will receive:
- A workshop on writing for piano with Keith Kirchoff
- A workshop on commissioning works with Flannery Cunningham
- Composition coaching from Sam Wells
- Coaching and master classes pertaining to the use of electronics
- Assistance with electronic materials
- A performance of their new work by Keith Kirchoff, OR Keith plus an additional instrument
- Automatic acceptance to SPLICE Institute 2027
Anyone is welcome to apply, and no previous experience with electronics is required.
There is no application fee, and no cost to participate in the Fellowship Program.
Up to 6 composers will be selected.
Timeline
- August 15: Application deadline
- September 10: Applicants will be notified
- November 1: Drafts of pieces are due
- January 1: Final scores/materials are due
- March 2027: Performance at the University of Oklahoma (dates have yet to be decided upon)
SPLICE Institute 2027
Though composition fellows are not required to attend SPLICE Institute 2027, all are guaranteed admission (this does not include free attendance - see below). The Institute will take place at Western Michigan University from June 20-26, 2027.
NOTE: Fellows do not automatically receive a discount for the Institute, though all are encouraged to apply for the assistance we offer every year.
