Support from the Annette Vande Gorne Foundation for an Acousmatic Composition Residency at the Musiques & Recherches Studios
A grant of up to €2,500 to cover travel and accommodation costs for an acousmatic composition residency at a multiphonic studio of Musiques & Recherches in Ohain, Belgium.
Acousmatic music is a form of electroacoustic music that prioritises pure listening to sounds, independent of their visual or instrumental sources. Created primarily in a studio and played through loudspeakers, it explores complex sound textures, electronic transformations, and immersive atmospheres. Rather than relying on repetitive rhythms, it favours a free and organic flow, employing contrasts, dynamics, and spatial sound to transport the listener into an abstract, imaginary world.
Age limit: Applicants must be no older than 35 in 2025 or 2026.
To participate: Submit the following before 17 February 2025 (at Brussels): • A CV • A written description of the multiphonic composition project (between 3 and 16 channels) • A previously completed acousmatic work • A biography
Documents must be sent to fondat...@musiques-recherches.be via a file transfer service (e.g., Dropbox, WeTransfer).
The selection committee includes Elizabeth Anderson, Jaime Reis, Daniel Teruggi, Hans Tutschku, and Annette Vande Gorne.
The results for the two grant recipients for 2025 and 2026 will be announced on 9 May 2025.
Residency conditions: Participants agree to be present in the “Métamorphoses d’Orphée” multiphonic studios of Musiques & Recherches in Ohain for 2–3 weeks, preferably in June or July.
They will be welcomed by a technician and then work independently.
The piece must be finalised with a mastered file independent of the work session, accompanied by a stereo reduction.
The programme note must be completed no later than one month before the premiere performance by Musiques & Recherches.
Supplement: An additional €250 will be awarded if the work is completed at the Musiques & Recherches studios by the end of the residency.
Programming and opportunities: • Programming of the piece in a “Lisboa Incomum” concert in Lisbon, Portugal, as part of the DME project’s concert season • Invitation to attend the next “L’Espace du Son” festival, with free accommodation at Musiques & Recherches
