There has been a tremendous response to my offer of mentoring an online summer course in sound and audio based on the Tutorial for the Handbook for Acoustic Ecology, which is part of the WSP Database.
My version of the course will likely have 35 participants, and we plan to meet on Zoom in the morning here on the West Coast of Canada, which is the evening in the UK and Europe. As I pointed out in the initial announcement, it is regrettable that these times are impractical for those in Asia and the Pacific region.
However, we have found an alternative. My friend and colleague Susan Frykberg, who lives in Australia, is well qualified to handle a parallel version of the course for those within her time zone. She designed SFU’s initial distance education version of the Introduction to Acoustic Communication and taught it online for many years. She is familiar with the material and would be pleased to act as a mentor to a second group of participants following the same curriculum, also starting in May for 10 weeks.
The only difference is that I think it is only fair to offer her, as a freelancer, some compensation, so we’re thinking of a modest Aus$100 for the course, assuming she can get 10 students.
For those interested in this “Pacific” version of the course, please contact her directly for all enquiries, at sfrykberg.com
Thank you
