FETA presents Pedja Kovačević, the founder of Soundologia, who will discuss Soundologia Anthology Volume 3 — a double CD released on Soundologia Records documenting South Florida's contemporary and experimental music community through the contributions of 17 composers and more than 35 performers.
Spanning acoustic composition, electroacoustic music, live electronics, modular synthesis, algorithmic composition, field recording, experimental jazz, sound poetry, and immersive sound practice, Acoustic Anthology and Electric Anthology map the creative breadth of a musical community that resists easy categorization.
Featured composers and sound artists include Charles Norman Mason, Federico Bonacossa, Orlando Jacinto Garcia, Daniel Estrada, Dorothy Hindman, Jacob David Sudol, Russ Spiegel, Atomic Theatre, Richard Garet, Gustavo Matamoros, José Hernández Sánchez, Juraj Kojš, Jose Veliz, Night Foundation, Eden Grey, Rafa, and Fsik Huvnx. Three works — by Night Foundation (Richard Vergez), Eden Grey, and Rafa — were newly commissioned for this edition, reflecting Soundologia's role not only in documenting contemporary music practices but also in supporting the creation of new repertoire.
In this talk, Kovačević will trace the development of the Soundologia Anthology series from its initial concept to the release of Volume 3, discussing curatorial decisions, artist collaborations, commissioned works, and the mission guiding the project: to preserve and promote contemporary music practices that are rarely documented together within a unified curatorial and editorial framework. More than a recording project, the anthology was conceived as a long-term effort to document, contextualize, and disseminate a diverse range of contemporary and experimental music practices through recordings, analytical texts, and curatorial documentation. The presentation will also revisit the Soundologia Anthology Festival 2025, which brought many of the anthology's artists together in Miami and extended the project's mission from archival publication into public engagement and live performance. The Festival was supported by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, FETA Foundation, Subtropics, and the FIU Ratcliffe Art + Design Incubator.
About Pedja Kovačević
Pedja Kovačević is a Serbian-born musicologist, curator, and music producer, and the founder of Soundologia, a platform devoted to contemporary and experimental music. His work spans curatorial practice, scholarly research, and music production, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to sound and contemporary music.
His research, presented at conferences in the United States, Poland, Greece, and Serbia, explores intersections between music, literature, theater, visual arts, and architecture. As a lecturer at Florida International University's School of Music, Kovačević taught a course in electroacoustic music and presented public lectures at FIU and the University of Miami. He also organized concerts of new music in Miami featuring works by students and guest artists. Over the past several years, he has conducted more than twenty-five interviews with composers, performers, and musicologists, documenting creative processes and contemporary artistic practices.
Through Soundologia, Kovačević curates releases, publications, and events highlighting composers and sound artists from South Florida and beyond. The platform's flagship project, the Soundologia Anthologyseries, now in its third volume, documents the region's contemporary and experimental music community through recordings, analytical texts, and curatorial documentation. Soundologia Anthology Volume 3features seventeen composers and more than thirty-five performers across a double-CD release accompanied by a sixty-page booklet.
Now based in Chicago, Kovačević continues his work across scholarship, curation, and music production while collaborating with artists and organizations in both Chicago and South Florida.
