Subject: Call for Applications: Nāgrika Writing Contest 2026

Greetings from Nāgrika!

We are delighted to invite your institution to encourage students to participate in the 7th edition of Nāgrika's Annual Youth Writing Contest, a national platform that celebrates the voices and lived experiences of the youth across India's cities and towns.

This year's theme, "My City's Eye Witness," invites participants to tell the story of their city's evolution through the perspective of a non-human witness in a public space, one that has silently observed the changing rhythms of urban life over time. Through essays, stories, letters, or other forms of prose, we hope to inspire young writers to reflect on the places they call home and the stories that shape them.

Contest Highlights:

  • Open to young people aged 18-30 years.

  • Entries accepted in both English and Hindi.

  • Original prose submissions between 1,000 and 3,000 words.

  • Cash prizes, publication opportunities, certificates, and other exciting recognitions.

  • Last date for submission: 12 July 2026.

We would be grateful if you could share this opportunity with your students through your departmental networks, notice boards, and newsletters/bulletins. We believe this contest offers a meaningful platform for young people to engage creatively with questions of memory, identity, and urban change towards their cities.

Students can find the contest guidelines and submission details here: https://www.nagrika.org/writing-contest

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We look forward to your support in amplifying young voices and stories from across India.

Warm regards,

Team Nāgrika
