Dear Colleagues,
We had a small, but useful IBEC Management Committee call yesterday. In shifting the call from its earlier, March time frame, the rescheduled call could not accommodate as many schedules as we had hoped. Looking forward to a June call, many have suggested that the original timing during the ITS Europe meeting will not work, so Patty Fusaro will be in touch with all of us to see if either Wednesday June 12th or Wednesday June 19th will work.
Here are the highlights of the call:
· Membership is strongly positioned in excess of 500. We will sign up as many attendees at the IBEC Tokyo sessions as possible, including having a membership form ready and collecting business cards from those present. The next goal: 1,000!
· Luca and Meng have been reflecting on how best our communications strategy should be framed and will be holding a working group meeting in the coming weeks to discuss their ideas. Their efforts are very important to help us be more proactive in representing the vision of the international evaluation community.
· Caroline Visser sends her best regards and has confirmed with the Swiss registry that the documentation IBEC has prepared for the legal entity likely will be fine and shouldn't be a problem when it comes to finalizing our status. She has updated the IRF Executive Committee of all of this and it (the IRF Executive Committee) supports IRF setting up the association for IBEC as a sort of resident agent. With that in mind, she has reaffirmed her availability/involvement in the IBEC legal association as Treasurer.
· Thinking Highways is running my editorial as the inaugural IBEC column. It should be out shortly, if not already. We have a proposed column for the next issue that the editorial team is looking at, and more interest forming for further columns in the future. Please do contribute!
· The Tokyo IBEC sessions are forming up nicely. We owe a debt of gratitude to our ITS Japan hosts for entrusting us with the responsibility to deliver five sessions. We still need presenters for a couple of them. If you are not going, but have colleagues who are, let Patty know so that she can see if they might help. And if you are going, but don't feel you are able to present on a certain topic, it may be that one of us could prepare the PPT for you to deliver. If you are willing, let Patty know.
· IBEC Officers. With Caroline's having stepped down, I have asked for interested parties to contact me if they are willing to serve as a vice chair, and potentially as chair. A couple of you have contacted me and I can tell you that they will make strong leaders for us, as we prepare the line of succession. If you are interested, but have not contacted me yet, let me know so that we can sort out our next steps!
· The Role of IBEC. Paul Vorster led a brief discussion on IBEC's role as missionary and collaborator. With Keith Keen's additional suggestion that we can serve also an enabler, I have asked Paul to prepare brief materials for us to discuss in June, along with the thoughts that are emerging from Meng's and Luca's efforts. Stay tuned!
Patty is working on more detailed minutes and will be getting you them as well as our January 16th minutes.
I hope all is well and depending on your hemisphere-Happy Spring or Autumn!
