2022 Futures Conference
Volunteer Opportunities
What is a Futures Conference?
The Futures Conference is held every decade beginning nearly twenty years ago now (previous conferences in 2002 and 2012). The purpose of the Futures Conference is to set a vision for school psychology’s future in meeting the needs of children, families and the systems that serve them. There have been a number of publications about previous conferences. For the 2002 conference, here are a few: Cummings et al., 2011, D’Amato et al 2003, Sheridan et al., 2007. These are products from the 2012 conference: Jarmuz-Smith et al, 2013 and Song et al., 2019.
What will the 2022 Futures Conference look like?
For 2022, the conference title is, School Psychology Preparation, Practice, and Scholarship: Pathways for an Inclusive Future. It will begin July 2022 and involve activities throughout 2022 and possibly into 2023 allowing for participants to have the opportunity to go from knowledge acquisition to sustained skill development. Each participant will be able to choose for themselves the depth of learning that they want to engage in. More information will be available later regarding exact dates. It will be a virtual conference with several components to allow for various forms of engagement (e.g., pre-conference preparation, individual reflection, small group work, and follow up/sustainability).
How can you join in shaping the future of the field?
As the planning continues, we are ready for volunteers to help throughout the entire conference. We are seeking volunteers from the school psychology community and would like the diversity of our school communities represented defined broadly as geography, individual identity, students, practitioners, graduate educators, early career, retired ….. all are welcome! The broad types of volunteer opportunities, and the potential activities within each one, are provided in the chart below.
