Other Turnverein news

New Membership dues for 2010

The Turnverein Cultural Center is a non-profit corporation and is actually owned by its members and it's primary purpose is to provide affordable space to its member clubs.

Bluntly, to maintain the Turnverein's non-profit status, and more importantly, to keep the building running, we strongly encourage you to join the Turnverein.  Your membership dues goes directly to the building.

The new rates for 2010 are:

Single $48
Dual $90
Family $110
Student/Senior $34

Yearly Membership for Swing Club Members includes:

1. FREE admission on the 1st Friday of EVERY month
2. Discounts at ALL swing-related workshops at
The Turn
3. Reduced admission to ALL Turnverein dances
(not just the Swing Club dances)

As a member, if you sign up at the beginning of the year and dance every other week during the year, you'll save $80 over the non-member pricing to dance the same amount of time!!

AND you'd get 12 "extra" dances because of the once-a-month FREE dance!

Please join or renew your membership online.

With the increase of members you can imagine that this is a huge amount of data entry.  On-line memberships are paid through PayPal, using a credit card or checking account.  If you do join on-line, please make sure your address, phone numbers, and e-mail are correct. Note: if you have an Earthlink or Comcast e-mail address, there will be a delay of up to 24 hours before you receive your Registered User Verification.

Note: You do not need to pay membership in more than on Turnverein member club to belog to multiple clubs!  The six member clubs are Ballroom, Colorado Swing Dance Club (Lindy Hop), Rocky Mountain Swing Dance Club (West Coast Swing), Salsa Central Denver, Tango Colorado, and the Denver Turnverein Chorus.  However, please select only clubs which you actively participate in now - not just clubs you have an interest in.  You can always be added to the member lists of other clubs in the future.

Security Alert

LOCK UP YOUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS
The Turnverein had an incident at the salsa social recently. A purse and a shoe bag were stolen from the bar area during the dance lesson (around 8 pm).  They did recover the purse in the dumpster behind the building later in the evening. The only thing not recovered was the person's car keys. They also found the shoe bag and shoes in the parking lot. Please lock your belonging in the trunk of your car.

Additional Parking

On nights when there is no concert, Fillmore management has agreed to let people attending Turnverein events park in the Fillmore parking lot, which is adjacent to the south side of the Turnverein parking lot. (In return, the Turnverein allows them to rent 3 spaces in the Turnverein lot on concert nights.)

On nights when there is a concert at the Fillmore Auditorium (Colfax and Clarkson), the Turnverein has also arranged for additional parking in several small parking lots within a few blocks of the Turnverein. If the parking lot is full when you arrive at the Turnverein, go ahead and pull into the parking lot, and speak to one of the parking attendants. They will probably be able to provide you with a permit and directions to park nearby.

Even if you already know of the additional lots, you must get a permit first each time, or your vehicle may be towed! Also, if you park in one of the additional lots without a permit, the Turnverein parking attendants do not have an accurate count of how many spaces are left in the nearby lots.

The Turnverein has arranged with the Bank of Denver to provide additional spaces for parking near the Turnverein.  These spaces are available any night; not just concert nights.  The bank has agreed to let us start using 22 spaces and may add more spaces later if we are compliant with their requirements.

There are specific instructions members and others attending the Turnverein need to follow in order to use these spaces.

1.  Stop by the Turnverein first and park in front of the stairs, as close as possible to the stairs, in order to avoid impeding traffic.

2.  Pick up a temporary parking permit from the door table.  Instructions should be on the back of each permit or handed out with each permit.  (Some have already been printed only with maps; not instructions.) The parking permits will be dated as needed, with a large marker, with the month, date, and year, for example, 03/01/09.  Check the date on the parking permit before leaving your car.  If the permit does not have the correct date, your car will be towed.

3.  Drive to the entrance to the bank parking lot on Clarkson just past (north of) 16th Ave., on the right (east side).

4.  Drive straight to the back of the parking lot and park next to the alley, or in the spaces on the south side, facing out (people will have to back into the spaces, so the tow truck drivers driving through the lot can easily see the parking permits).

5.  Place the parking permit on the dashboard of the vehicle.

Any vehicles parked in the wrong spaces, parked facing front end toward to the alley, or without a permit valid for that date will be TOWED.

The spaces may be used between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Vehicles should not be left overnight past 6:00 AM.
