Dear respected Superiors and colleagues,
First and foremost please forgive as this email comes (very) late to your mailbox. And the email is quite lengthy and my thank you for reading it. I have managed to personally called some of you though not everyone. Thank you for your support.
FYKI UTP Debate Club (Bahasa Melayu Unit) is organizing Cabaran Debat Muda 21 Tahun untuk Alaf 21 (CDM2121) for the very first time for debaters under 21 years old in IPTA and S. So far we’ve managed to receive participation from 15 institutions comprises of 31 teams. One team from 4PM (Persatuan Persuratan Pemuda Pemudi Melayu) Singapura will also participate in this first edition of CDM2121.
We have planned CDM2121 to be small, fortunately (or unfortunately) it grows bigger and beyond our control. When we approached RTM to get a promotion slot in the Selamat Pagi 1Malaysia, we were told by the Deputy Director General, Dr Ahmad Jailani Yunus to request for the Challenge Throphy as well from the YB Menteri Kem. Penerangan, Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan (KPKK), Dato’ Seri Utama Rais Yatim (DSURY). Alhamdullillah we got not only the trophies but also under prizes for debaters and souvenirs for the final judges as well. Yesterday, DSURY’s office called our student organizing committee to confirm his attendance to the final.
Last week, we (En Aminur & myself) managed to discuss this possibility with Tuan Haji Mohd Noor Rosli and Puan Shamsina and Tuan Haji adviced me to come up with the UTP Advisory Committee Members to ensure the smooth execution of the event especially the Grand Finale.
I must say this is a very short notice, but knowing many of you have involved in many debate competitions that we have hosted before as well and also other UTP major events, I am very sure together we can do this.
The details of the CDM2121 and the final program are in the attachments. I also include the students’ organizing committee members for your kind reference. Due to the hard work of the students for the past 3, 4 weeks I can safely say 70% of the (ground) work has been done. And now is execution time of the real event. Our role as the advisors are just to ensure that what they planned and intend to do is in tandem with UTP normal practices and also to proj(t)ect UTP good reputations.
If you may, let me share some exciting developments so far for CDM2121:
(1) As per today we’ve received confirmation of participations of 31 teams representing 15 institutions. 1 is from 4PM Singapura. Majority of them are in their teens.
(2) The “Piala Pusingan” (worth RM16k) is courtesy of YB Dato’ Seri Utama Rais Yatim, Minister of KPKK and he will also grace the Grand Finale of the event.
(3) 4 UTP Debate Club members and CDM2121 organising committee members will appear on Hello on TV2 (7:45am ~ 8:00 am ) and Selamat Pagi 1Malaysia on TV1 (8:45am ~ 9:00am) on this Friday, 23.11.2012 to promote CDM2121 and UTP.
(4) The recording of the Grand Finale will be conducted by RTM for TV news and berita on the 26.11.2012, Monday.
(5) YB DSURY has also personally requested that he wants the event, esp. the Grand Finale to be conducted by the students themselves. Be it the MCs, the Yang Dipertua Dewan, usherettes, performances, etc. Our role is to guide them.
