Dear CDL-I,

We have officially finished the code for the shareable  version of our CDL application. This is the application that uses Google Drive as its platform. It can be found in GitHub

The application is currently still in beta, hence, please beware of bugs, etc. If you fix them or add any new features, please consider submitting a Pull Request.

The application is customizable so you can change it to fit your specifications.

Thank you to all of the Fordham staff, faculty and students who helped with this project. Also, special thanks to Georgetown University Libraries for their comments and suggestions that helped us take the application to the next level.

If you have any questions please feel free to fill out our Google Form or email us.

All the best,
Mariah & Witt

Thank you - this is very exciting! Can I ask if it is currently configurable to use multiple Google Drives or just a single one. Presumably different instances could be set up. I'm thinking beyond/outside libraries to a linking together of a number of digital collections. Also thinking of the restrictions of free Google Drive (15GB I believe).

Apologies for not reading all the documentation before jumping in here.

Hi Paul

Currently, the app is designed to be used with a single G Suite/Google Workspace account (we use a general email account e.g. lib...@myuniv.edu), but you can setup multiple libraries and each will get its own folders on Google Drive within the Google Workspace account.

Regarding: the free Google account, it’ll not work at the moment since I designed the app for institutions with G Suite to simplify the authentication process, it just logs users (of the same domain as the Google Drive owner e.g. if lib...@myuniv.edu is the drive owner, only users with @myuniv.edu will be able to log in) in with Google OAuth.

And there’s not much documentation for the app yet. Let’s wait and see, if the app is really getting used, I (we) can start writing one.

Best,
W
