Vita Rara (http://www.vitarara.net/) is a boutique consulting firm
that does custom development as well as ongoing development and
support of our three software products. The job entails ongoing work
on our existing systems, as well as assignments as needed on new
custom consulting jobs. All work is done on premises at our office.
(We believe in co-located teams.) We are moving aggressively to XP
practices including pairing all the time, test first, constant
refactoring, frequent deployment, etc.

Our existing products are a mix of Java (MORI Membership Management),
Groovy (Quadran ERP for importers and distributors) and Ruby on Rails
(Kase Manager online help desk and client case and issue tracking
system).

Our consulting focus is completely on Ruby on Rails. Our aim is to be
the BEST Ruby on Rails development house in our region, and amongst
the best in the nation/world.

Applicants should have a passion for software development, learning
and constant improvement. Candidates must be able to function as part
of a development pair on a regular basis. We use 27" iMacs as pairing
stations with two mice and two keyboards. Applicants must own and
maintain their own Mac Book, Mac Book Pro or Ubuntu Linux based
laptop. (A craftsman owns and maintains their own tools.) A
demonstrable strong grasp of one static OO and one dynamic OO language
are a must. Experience in web development, RDBMS (MySQL and/or
Postgres), HTML, XHTML, CSS, Javascript and Ajax are a must. A bonus
would be experience in Strut 1 and/or 2, Ruby on Rails, EJB 2 and/or
3, design patterns, refactoring, Eclipse/NetBeans/IDEA, Ant, Maven,
jQuery, or Prototype.

• Previous experience in a Lead Programming role is desired.
