Presentation:
Continuously Improving the Performance of Java Applications:
Once your development team has deployed an application into
production, work on the app is not finished. Web applications are
under continuous change as the business adds new functionality, as the
load on the app increases, and as patterns of user behavior become
more evident. Application development teams must work closely with the
operations team to gather data about the performance of each app so
they can make informed decisions about how best to tune the app and
make it perform and scale. Steve Hudson will show several examples
using live applications from among New Relic's 4000 customers and
point out how these customers can see slow transactions, slow SQL
queries, and other performance bottlenecks and relate how these
customers have faced application problems.
About the Presenter:
Steve Hudson is an application performance consultant with New Relic.
A developer by training, Steve works extensively with Java and Ruby on
Rails based applications, helping organizations identify the causes of
performance problems, and providing advice on improving scalability
and throughput. Steve has been focused on web application performance
for several years having worked at Wily Technology, Splunk and now New
Relic.
