Et puis il y a tout ce sous-bois féroce et ces mille et mille formes végétales qui s’entrelacent et se combattent, déjà sous la ligne de la terre, dans les mille et mille radicelles et dans les mille autres formes pressées par leur turgescence chimique et encore sans forme, qui jaillissent de la terre comme des armées avec leurs corps nus encore dépourvus d’écorce, et qui s’inventent leurs premières machines à respirer et à échanger avec l’atmosphère et commencent à grimper en un furieux enchevêtrement muet de formes nées des graines portées par le vent ou par d’autres bombes qui pullulent dans le ventre pourri du monde, et qui entament leur lutte pour grimper vers le haut, vers la lumière.Pourquoi il y a tout ce sous-bois mauvais ?, je me demande. Qui essaie d’envelopper et d’effacer et d’étouffer les arbres plus grands. Pourquoi toute cette férocité misérable et désespérée qui défigure toute chose ? Pourquoi tout ce grouillement de corps qui tentent d’épuiser les autres corps en aspirant leur sève de leurs mille et mille racines déchaînées et de leurs petites ventouses forcenées pour détourner vers eux la puissance chimique, pour créer de nouveaux fronts végétaux capables de tout anéantir, de tout massacrer ? Où je peux bien aller pour ne plus voir ce carnage, cette irréparable et aveugle torsion qu’on a appelée vie ?

And there is all this ferocious underwood and those thousands and thousands vegetal shapes which interleave and fight each other, first under the earth line, in the thousands and thousands little roots and in the thousands of other shapes driven by their chemical and still shapeless turgescences, that gush forth from earth like armies with their naked, still barkless bodies, and which invent their first breathing machine that exchange with the atmosphere and begin to climb as a furious and silent entanglement of shapes born from seeds carried by winds or by other bombs which abound in the rotten guts of the world, and which start their fight to progress upward, toward the light. Why this evil underwood? I wonder. Which tries to embrace, suffocate and smother the greater trees? Why all this pitiful and desperate ferocity that disfigures everything? Why all this swarming of bodies which attempt to exhaust other bodies by aspiring their sap with their thousand and thousand of raging roots and their little fanatical succion cups to divert toward them their chemical power, to create new vegetal battlefronts capable of crushing everything, slaughtering everything. Where the hell can I go to escape seeing this carnage, this irredeemable and blind warping called life?
