The king was receiving all over the place news and details about those persecutions and all these conversions [from Evangelical to Catholic faith]. Those who have recanted and taken communion were counted by the thousand : two thousands in such and such place, six thousands in another, all at the same time, instantly. The king would applaud his own power and piousness.
