The CDC-Hubert Global Health Fellowship Application is Now Open!!

Go to: http://wwwdev.cdc.gov/hubertfellowship/AppInfo.html and click
on the "Apply Now" button at the bottom.

Application period is opne from January 16-February 17, 2012. Online
portion must be submitted by 11:59pm EST on February 17th; and All
supporting documents must be *postmarked* by February 17th.


Once again the eligibility requirements are:
You must be:

A medical or veterinary student in your 2nd or 3rd year when you
apply
Enrolled in a school accredited by the
Liaison Committee on Medical Education
American Osteopathic Association
American Veterinary Medical Association
Covered by medical insurance during the fellowship
A U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Able to attend the fellowship orientation, January 10–13, 2013 (unless
you are out of the country on your field assignment)

Is the 8 week time frame on the Kenya projects flexible, i.e. would I be able to do 6 weeks instead. I am asking because my school's 4th year schedule combined with the residency application process would make doing 8 weeks very difficult.

Hi there,
I did the program on Kenya for veterinary students and learned none of the dates are set in stone. I actually only ended up going for 4 weeks and they worked around my school schedule. Apply anyway and the dates will work out. If you're doing the veterinary student program feel free to contact me with questions. I worked on the global rabies surveillance project.

Thanks Jenn for your input! As the Program Coordinator, I do want to caution people applying that we are strict about fellows doing the minimum required 6 weeks for the fellowship. We have instituted many improvements in the fellowship over the years, and one includes each fellow spending 6-12 weeks abroad. As everyone can imagine, it is different working abroad and not as "fast-paced" as the U.S. Often 6 weeks goes by quicker than many would like, so shortening that time frame isn't ideal.

I will always encourage students to apply, but please do keep in mind that you must meet the minimum fellowship requirements which include being available for at least 6 weeks to go abroad.
