Hi, fellow runners --
Here's one last mention of my 25-mile hike in the Allegheny Mountains of eastern West Virginia to raise $2,500 for cystic fibrosis, a fatal lung disease that has touched my family.
The hike is Saturday!! Wow! I've spent the summer doing a ton of hiking near and far, which is why I haven't been joining you on runs lately, and I feel really prepared. We're supposed to have great hiking weather, though we'll be starting at 5 a.m., when it will be dark and chilly out.
A little background: My niece Colleen died of CF in 2013 at 16, and my niece Erin, her sister, lives with the disease as a student at Indiana University. From their dad:
"CF is a genetic disorder that causes the accumulation of thick mucus in the lungs and around the pancreas, causing suffocation and infection. It is fatal and there is no cure. Over the past several years, the progress that has been made toward finding a cure and treating the disorder have been amazing. We believe that the cure we are seeking is close, but we must continue to fund the research, which has already brought us this far." Visit my donation page here. Even if you don't donate, visit to learn more about the disease's impact on my family. Thank you very much for your consideration, good wishes, and support. Many thanks to those who have donated. See you at the car barn! Chris
