Hi, fellow runners --
Diana kindly has let me take this moment to let you know I'm doing a 28-mile hike in the Allegheny Mountains of eastern West Virginia in September to raise $2,500 for cystic fibrosis, a fatal lung disease that has touched my family. My niece Colleen died of CF in 2013 at 16, and my niece Erin, her sister, lives with the disease as a student at Indiana University.
From their dad:
"CF is a genetic disorder that causes the accumulation of thick mucus in the lungs and around the pancreas, causing suffocation and infection. It is fatal and there is no cure. Over the past several years, the progress that has been made toward finding a cure and treating the disorder have been amazing. We believe that the cure we are seeking is close, but we must continue to fund the research, which has already brought us this far." I've taken a couple hikes on the Appalachian Trail (murder on my calves -- different from running for me) and on Sugarloaf Mountain, and I've started doing short walks during the week and longer walks on weekends. So far, I'm at about 12 miles and will reach 20 miles before tapering down a few weeks before the hike. Visit my donation page here. Even if you don't donate, visit to learn more about the disease's impact on my family. Thank you very much for your consideration, and see you at the car barn! Chris
