Meghan Curran carved out their place in history when they both took leads in the Marine Corps Marathon that they would hold to the finish. The race's 39th running at 19,759 finishers. Read about these races and more in our Marine Corps Marathon coverage.

Rumspringa
Runspringa

The Amish have a tradition — Rumspringa — in which their teenagers live in the secular world to decide what life they want to lead, if they want to come back. Marathon runners do the same thing. They toss their training logs aside, stay out late, eschew the (sometimes) monastic life they’d built for themselves. And they figure out if it is really for them. It’s Runspringa.

RunWashington November/December 2014

RunWashington's November/December issue is out and features plenty of local runners, including statesman (and 100 marathon finisher) George Banker, a comedian who owes some of his material to what running does to him, cancer survivors who have achieved running goals and a cool cat named Johnny Pace.

Army Ten Miler
Gallagher makes it a three-peat at Army Ten-Miler

Kerri Gallagher will tell you 10 miles isn't her specialty. And she has a point.

Last year, Gallagher was fifth in the 1500 meter run at the USA Track and Field Championships.

Well, on the side, Gallagher became the first runner in the Army Ten-Miler's 30-year history to win three straight overall titles, while also lowering her event record by six seconds to 54:50.

I never look good in my race photos, even if I am feeling fabulous -- great shot!!  I am coming Saturday and will bring both girls as well.  Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Wow, that's great!

Thanks for all the support through training, everyone, and extra thanks for the support on race day, Diana, Jeffrey, and Chris - it was so good to see friendly faces on the course.  And yes, I felt really good.  Not fast, but good - ran the whole time, no pain, no fatigue, just fun. This is the second time I have had a 5:00 (on the nose!) marathon time - I am beginning to think I should be a pacer for Clif bar.  :-b

See you all soon (though not this coming week - I am running a 5K, the Pacers 'Stache Dash in Shirlington, with Bernie, my sister, and the kids on Sunday).

Thanks again!
J.
