Hello CQSCC Board of Directors!
A huge thank you to all of you who participated in the Golf Tournament event - it was a great day! We are off and running again, CQSCC staff has started planning and organizing a Health & Wellness Day with a 5k Walk-a-thon for Saturday, October 22, 2011. We have a financial goal of $10,000.00 to meet!!!
It's two weeks away and this is what we have accomplished thus far:
- Friends of Keney has donated the use of the Pond House for our special day (We will use the facility to share with vendors who will be bring information to share with the community- majority will be health related organizations!)
- We have a T-Shirt and water bottle company currently working with us
- Hartford Parks and Recreation will be supporting our day by sendinig staff to work the entire day (3-5 staff)
- Hartford Fire Department will bring the "Safe House" out for part of the day
- The Mayor of Hartford will be joining us "Hopefully" at the beginning of the day and presenting a Proclamation to CQSCC (I say hopefully because his schedule is full that day)
- MDC (The water bureau) will suipply the water for the day for consumption.
- We have five presenters confirmed to share information and alternatives for healthier bodies, minds and spirits.
- We have 12 vendors coming out to do blood pressure, cholestral, dental, etc checks during the day
- We have a DeeJay who would like to offer music during the day
- We have a theme "Walking Towards A Cure For Sickle Cell Disease"
- We have several sponsors to pay for walkers - our total as of today is approximately $500.00 to date
- Some of our supporters/sponsors are: Phoenix Society, Hartford Parks and Recreation, Fire Department, Ula Dodson, Troy Steward, Mr. Armstrong, and more will keep adding them as we go along.
- We have volunteers from Goodwin College, Parks and Recreation to come out and help organize the day of October 22nd.
- The Hosptial of Central Connecticut donated fannie packs (100) and (100+ bags) to give out to participants.
A huge thank you to Beatrice Sullivan who has made outreach efforts seem effortless! KUDOs to you Beatrice!!!
WHAT WE STILL NEED:
- $9,500.00 in sponsorships and donations
- We need each Board of Director to make a request to their employer/church/friends and family to make a donation or sponsor a walker
- We need flyers to go out to churches, workplaces, gyms, hair dressers, college campuses, schools, barber shops, nail salons, etc. Please make copies of flyer and pass them out!
- A sponsor for the T-shirts and water bottles approximately $800.00 sponsorship
- A sponsor for food items & other necessities (apples, granola bars, bananas, oranges, juice paks, straws, napkins, cups, etc)
- Help on October 22, to help with introducing presenters
- Help with crowd control (we are expecting a CROWD!)
- We need signage to go out in the community and especially around the Park.
- We need a couple of people to take care of volunteers ( make sure they have water, food, etc)
- We need help with securing 100 umbrellas in the event it rains - we are still walking! Can someone call Travelers and see if they would donate 100 umbrellas?
- We need someone at the registration table to welcome participants to the event and issue out T-Shirts, Fannie Packs, and water bottles.
- We need table signage for our vendors and 16 plastic table clothes (Red and White)
- We need set up and break down volunteers (7:30 a.m. for set up and volunteers for 2:30-4:00 breakdown and clean up).
- We need a donation of hand warmers (it will possibly be a cool morning)
- We will need greeters to welcome participants to the event, and cheerleading teams to cheer on those who finish the walk
We need all of our Board of Directors to join us in making this a memorable day by helping to bring attention to this event by disseminating the attached flyer to help increase our sponsorships/donations to a much greater potential!
If you would like to sign up for any of the above tasks, please let us know by October 14, 2011!
Thank you so much!
