Greetings to you all,

I hope that the holiday season and onset of winter finds you well and
happy. Our small but dedicated group at the C.C. Stern Type Foundry
has been busy this year, setting a foundation for our non-profit
organization and beginning to work with the community to establish our
workspace and working museum. We are an official 501(c)(3) non-profit
and, even without a physical space, have begun our programming in the
form of small lectures, screenings and presentations.

At the current time we are in negotiations on a space that will house
the type foundry in old industrial Portland, what is now called the
Pearl District. The location is close to the city's major art
galleries, across the street from a major art school, and near some
well established printing businesses. We feel it will be a great place
for the foundry and hope to begin open hours early in 2010, if the
space negotiations are successful.

We have also begun working with Richard Kegler at p22 type to aid in
fundraising to finish the production of "Making Faces," a documentary
about Jim Rimmer (Pie Tree Press) and the design and casting of Stern
type, which was inspired by Chris Stern. Many of you have seen the
trailer for this film and know that the footage is beautiful, as well
as educational.  With a little push of money and time, Richard hopes
to complete the editing of the film in short order. We are anxious to
see this film finished and to present it as part of our programming in
2010. We've included a link for those of you who haven't seen the
trailer:

In 2010 we need to raise $20,000 to cover our space, build out and
installation of the foundry, establishment of our type and design
resource library, and program offerings. To this end, we'd like to
invite you to visit our new and improved website, read more about our
mission, and make a donation to the type foundry. All cash donations
are tax deductable to the fullest extent allowed by law, and we will
provide a receipt for any donations made.

Best Wishes,
C.C. Stern Type Foundry Board and Advisors
