Additionally, creating animated GIFs to showcase your projects working is really nice, especially for mobile apps. These can be embedded into the repo's README using GitHub markdown.

There are a number of tools to use to create the animated GIF, but a simple one is LICEcap:

The file size can't be too big, or it won't play as expected within the README, but that shouldn't be too hard to achieve.
