Hi everyone,

Here are some good projects to try recreating (for the Bay Area) in your GitHub accounts...as demo projects for future employers to consider:

Tis the season to apply for internships (actually really this starts in Fall semester):

Definitely, focus on putting in the time with algorithm prep:

(personally, I've had the most experience with HackerRank)

...this is equivalent to taking:
  • a 110A class
  • a "B" class
  • a "C" class
  • a 197P Technical Interview Prep class
Definitely recommend learning either iOS or Android development, as these are quick ways to fully realized / working projects. Seems that employers expect that students (programmers, not sys admin track though) will be able to build mobile apps. (Though personally I like mobile-optimized websites better...no one wants to install an app for everything, but appreciates when your website is great for a mobile device.)

I hope classes are going well for everyone!

Cheers,

Katherine

Folks can also join a few current and former CCSF CS students at Whiteboarding and Algorithms for 4 hours from 3-7 PM every Wednesday at Noisebridge Hackerspace in the Mission. Hands-on and self-directed algorithm practice. See a list of the sort of problems we discuss at https://github.com/ggorlen/nb_whiteboarding

All the best,
Greg
