In Gruhalakshmi colony we are paying Rs 100 or so to Chinna the
garbage collector.
Will he lose his job? Will SCB prevent him? absorb him? What if we
refuse to engage SCB to collect garbage?

SECUNDERABAD: Every house in Secunderabad Cantonment Board will now
have to pay a monthly charge for lifting waste from their doorstep.
Houses in residential colonies will be charged Rs 100 per month and
for those in slums it will be Rs 50 per month.
The decision was taken at SCB’s general body meeting held at the main
office on Thursday.

The fund-starved SCB hopes to earn nearly Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh per
month with the new levy.
Nearly 200 metric tonnes of garbage is collected from about 390
residential colonies and around 40 slums, according to an SCB
official. Initially, SCB officials proposed Rs 150 for residential
colonies and Rs 100 for slums.
However, it was revised after SCB nominated member J Rama Krishna
raised an objection, saying the charges were high and would be an
additional burden on people.
While both SCB CEO Ajith Reddy and president Brigadier Abhijit Chandra
tried to convince members on the charges, they later agreed to reduce
it.
Secunderabad Cantonment TRS MLA G Sayanna, who attended the meeting,
also agreed to the revised charges.
The SCB CEO said that they had started door-to-door collection of
garbage in Circle No. I in Bowenpally as a pilot project.
He said now the charges were being levied to bear expenses towards
payment of salaries and vehicle maintenance.
