Property tax appraisal in SCBTNN | Dec 25, 2011, 03.06AM IST

HYDERABAD: After a gap of eight years, the Secunderabad Cantonment
Board (SCB) has started triennial revision of property tax assessment
for 2011-12. Once the exercise is completed, the SCB hopes to raise
additional revenue of at least Rs five crores.
According to SCB officials, there are 42 old grant bungalows (OGBs)
and nearly 50,000 residential properties in the Secunderabad
Cantonment jurisdiction.
"Cantonment Board tax department has deployed special teams to
distribute self-assessment forms. The teams have already distributed
self-assessment form to owners/occupants of 42 OGBs and asked them to
submit them within 15 days. Nearly 90% of OGBs are being exploited for
commercial use," an SCB tax department official told STOI.
Though OGBs are being put to commercial use against the Cantonment
Board rules and regulations, the occupants are paying property tax as
per residential tariff, the official replied.
So far, the teams have distributed assessment forms to owners of 3,000
properties and hope to complete the distribution process by January
first week. Once, the property owners submit their self-assessment
forms, the SCB officials would assess tax as per the Cantonment Board
tariff.
"We are examining guidelines of Greater Hyderabad Municipal
Corporation (GHMC) for property tax assessment," the official added.
After completion of assessment, demand notices would be served on
property owners.
"By February second week, we will complete the triennial revision
assessment. We are expecting around Rs five crore additional revenue,"
he added. Last year, the SCB had collected around Rs eight crore
property tax.======
