Dear Friends,
North Scarborough Green Loop Opening Event
A new 12km cycling loop will be officially opened on the 24th of May. It swoops through parks, along two waterways, past a small forest and through the Finch hydro corridor, picking up schools, malls, and sports facilities along the way. This new bike trail started its life as an idea by a local resident: connect existing paths and low-traffic streets, mark the route with official signs and then tell folks about this new way to get around in the neighbourhood. It winds through an area bordered approximately by McCowan, McNicoll, Birchmount and Huntingwood Avenues, and received great support from the local Councillors Chin Lee and Del Grande. The City's Environment and Energy Office awarded this community project a Live Green Toronto grant, and various city departments have enthusiastically supported the effort to make it a reality.
The Opening Event will be on the 24th of May at the L'Amoreaux Recreation Centre, located at 2000 McNicoll Ave (intersection with Kennedy Road). At 1pm, exhibits from community and nature organizations will showcase the Green Loop and environmental topics. The Toronto Police will have a bike Rodeo for the smaller children. At 2pm, Councillor Del Grande and Councillor Chin Lee will officially declare the green Loop as "open". Folks are encouraged to bring their bicycles to the event to have them checked by local volunteers and to participate in the guided rides after the ceremonies.
In case of rain, the event will be held indoors.
