Hi all,
Just got up today realizing that we do not have many days left on-campus. Although the 2 years have zipped pass, there have been many experiences in between and our committee CCMRC has always and will always be one of my most fond memories of the campus life.
I just wanted to look back at the two years that have gone by and remind us all that the distance we have covered thus far is leaps and bounds ahead than any other committee could have ever dreamed of. Although we have had some humble beginnings but again which committee didn't ?
CCMRC was formed by the incoming batch of 2012, with 11 juniors and 5 seniors who had little or no idea what to do. I must remark here that for a small committee our name is pretty bombastic! Nonetheless our seniors gave it their all, there were things that took an ugly turn during the admissions and after we came in as juniors but from then on I must say we have gone from strength to strength.
Admissions
Always a glitzy and glamorous job or it seemed so, but for the sleepless nights spent by the members who have been involved in it (Ask Nidhish & Sayan and now probably Lohit, Himanshu and Lakshmi!). During the time of our seniors, there were many goof-ups relating to the online interviews and venue fixtures. During our time it was scrapped altogether but leading to many more chaotic problems relating to venue and date changes, incorporation of XAT, GMAT and CMAT in the other campuses.
I must say we did a good job, and that was evident from the kind of response we got from the batch when we addressed them about the admissions problems and when we were recruiting from the junior batch. On this note, I want to say that the juniors have done a great job carrying over the torch. They have been handling the admissions process diligently as well as coordinating with the admissions department for the next batch. All this good work will pay good dividends on the way ahead.
I am proud to say that CCMRC has made the admissions process its own.
The Perspective
Our magazine, our baby, something that has been so close to my heart that some nights I have been literally dreaming about the designs and the layouts. So, from what we had been handed over in July 2011, we have completely transformed it in nature and reach. Although our batch has been slightly unresponsive to its intellectual nature, I have great hope that they will come around to appreciate its beauty. As long as we have more fools like me, the cause will always be fought for.
As far as the changes in The Perspective, the name itself is new as well as the logo. We have the Voice of IMT blog that is being regularly updated and the new FB page that was created just a few months back. Recently I talked with Pai and he was quite happy about the page, although a little disillusioned with the figure of only 209 likes in a campus which boasts of a strength of 1000.
I am very hopeful about the next members who will be taking over this mantle. Ankit, Dharma & Lakshmi all of them are creative and industrious and thinking that they will be seniors at one point of time solely responsible for looking after The Perspective often reassures me.
I want to say that we have made the best efforts to integrate as many channels for The Perspective as possible. We have regular updates coming in from the FB page photos, articles, interviews, news & videos along with the regularly updated blogs and the elusive print edition as well. This is our parting gift to the juniors, a fully functional brand waiting to derive some good publicity.
PR work
Although our committee's name has a word media in it, Media handling has never been our forte. But this year we have taken news reporting on the campus to a whole new level. I must say that Karthik has done an admirable job in handling the site that now rivals the Life@IMT blog which was rendered dysfunctional after E-Squared was let off.
On the strength of this work alone many new relations can be forged, the Perspective FB page has regular campus news and in turn the site has seen more traffic.
On the way ahead, looking at the Convocation 2013, the juniors will be going to the news agencies for the invitations and it will be a great time to leverage this experience. I am very confident that the juniors will use all the new tools at their disposal (including the office) to generate some positive reviews about CCMRC.
Big 10
All of the committees on campus have an event, a big event, a main event, that which is planned for throughout the year and that for which the committee is known for. I am proud to say this that we have Big10, it saw it's first year in campus in 2012 and the experience was surely rich. Although the participation was a little damp but again this was the first edition, who knows how many years it was before Chakravyuh or even Passion took off. We have time on our side and I say this because we lacked experience in conducting an event of this scale, but now we have some that will be very helpful in the later years.
The event idea itself was not very novel, but it was a first on the campus. The idea of searching for and rewarding 10 Big Ideas that will take India to the next league of breakout nations surely has a patriotic or atleast a hint corporate Social responsibility to it. If we can leverage that well, who knows we can have the next big idea of a great event on our hands itself.
All I can say is best of Luck for Big10 twenty13.
PressTease 2.0
Presstease was our brain child when we were juniors and the junior batch now has made it, it's own. They have redefined the way it has been conducted and have made (I dare say) one of the most popular events for the new batch.
When we were conducting it last year, there was often a talk of timing, that we should conduct it before any other committee does some event. But this year there was no doubt in our mind that ours was a novel and unique concept and as far as timing is concerned I can quote this term, " A Good Product sells itself..". I am well assured that this is going to be our legacy event going forward and I want it to continue that way.
Placements
I have to add here that the placement record of this batch of CCMRC has been excellent. Brands such as Airtel, Ernst & Young, VIP, Dr. Reddy's, HSBC, Jubilant, Genpact, Infosys, etc can be leveraged in a powerful way to get more industrious and bright juniors to join this committee. Many of the Management lessons that I have learnt, have been applied in the committee. Some of the credit for a good placement can certainly be given to CCMRC. In the same vein the summer placements for the juniors JPMC, Dr. Reddy's, Titan, Tata Motors, Ogilvy Mather etc have been exceptional. (Pardon me if I didn't type the entire list, but it's so long !)
Parting Words..
There have been many times when I have been down and out because of this committee, there have also been times when I have felt euphoria and success like no other again because of this committee. Because of these experiences I can say this batch of seniors passing out will be the strongest CCMRC alumnus for some times to come. When we joined this committee we were just some juniors, wanting to join some committee or the other but now we are Team CCMRC. I am proud that I am a part of CCMRC. I hope that the juniors will retire too in the same vein.
