Hi guys i suggest Tirumal, Aravind Susarla and Susie Tharu. Also it would be nice to have resource person from other universities in Hyderabad especially MAANU and Osmania (I know only these two) considering the light response we got from them when we called for papers. Also include from other departments/centres in HCU. It would also be nice if we can have new resource people and not the same as last two RAW.Cons.

Abba!!! TOO HOT... too cool...

If the RAW.CON Team does not mind and would prefer to reply, i would like to clear a doubt of mine.

I want to know whether outside Resource Person is mandatory? What the funding bodies say about it? What they are supposed to do here, means their work?

If YES, then i would like to know what is the tentative budget of this "STUDENT (Researcher) Conference" and how much generally we do spend (or going to spend this time) for outside Resource Persons?

(Sorry, i may sound little ignorant but please inform me. Previous coordinators may reply too if they like)...

Forgive me for clarifying on behalf of the Raw.Con 2013 coordinators:

1) Resource persons are not mandatory for student conferences but funding bodies do take that into serious consideration.
2) Also, participants of a national-level students' conference would expect different levels of feedback, from other research scholars as well as faculty, within and without HCU, that would enrich, often by uncomfortably complicating, his/her research question further.
3) While interaction among participants (paper presenters as well as other research scholars) is one level, sometimes a less renowned faculty who is actively guiding doctoral dissertations can add another dimension to the debate, as has happened in previous Raw.Cons, not that either of the proposed persons are any less renowned.
4) For the previous two Raw.Cons we had about 2 non-local resource persons and the last Raw.Con had local (HCU and non-HCU) resource persons as well, an experiment which was well received, as Raw.Cons, to quote, is not simply about celebration and food.
5) Often such involvement and interaction requires resource persons to put in a lot of work and hence, as is the practice among many such ventures, a faculty member who is not too senior nor too young is to be preferred. For example, to speak about people I am familiar with, inviting Dr. J. Devika may be more productive than inviting Prof. K. Satchidanandan or Prof. M. Dasan or Prof. E.V. Ramakrishnan or Smt. C.K. Janu, world-renowned though they may be. Moreover, the choice of these resource persons was determined by a list complied by the coordinators in consultation with other students and the Advisory Committee.
6) I guess it's never too late to raise critical questions (even if the coordinators have held meetings as well as sent emails all along briefing about  developments, disheartening though it may be to the coordinators), but I think we all would agree that the idea of events, academic or otherwise, is to create a more conducive/collaborative atmosphere where differences do not also get short shrift.
7) To rethink difference, with particular reference to our own various/vernacular modernities, the coordinators of Raw.Con 2013 are also preparing a reading list that will be circulated among participants and resource persons so that there can be interesting, hopefully intense, academic interaction.
8) Regarding other issues, please do attend/participate and intervene in meetings to make Raw.Con 2013 a success, which will not be possible without cooperation and constructive criticism from all CCL students and faculty.
9) Regarding budget, the coordinators are still following up sources and working out details and the final budget, I am sure, will be presented well before the event.

I once again request all CCL students, particularly senior research scholars, to contribute to Raw.Con 2013 by showing more initiative, by critically, but also constructively, engaging with the issues.

Sorry to prematurely, as it were, intervene in an on-going debate.
Please do carry on. Over and out, ansari.

Thank you so much sir for explaining it in detail. Just to elaborate my point i am writing this mail. For example, if we think Raw. Con 2013 budget in between 1.5 to 2 lakhs which we are getting from many sources. And if we spend some 50k for only two outside resource persons (including their up and down travel, accommodation, food and so on). Then its almost 1/3 of the whole conference budget.

My point was if this is a student's seminar and we spend 1/3 of it for outside resource persons, it looks little awkward to me. Dear all, please don't misunderstand me but i was thinking can't we use the same fund for other purposes in the conference instead of outside resource persons. I think local resource persons can be used in this regard.

In previous Raw.Cons, i never found resource persons to be of great help. Sorry this is my personal view and i may be wrong too. Further, this is not exclusively for Raw.Con 2013 and it might be considered for the later Raw.Cons, if not this time. No offence please, as the discussion going on, i thought to write...

From what I know, they are already on the job and working and worrying about many such issues!

Dear Sir,

Then its fine! I thought its a broader question. I think i haven't tried to intervene in any such space, as discussion was going on i put forward my point. If you all like it can think over it (not necessarily for this Raw. Con, may be later) or else no problem. Me (if can be of any help) and my support is always there... Thanks a lot...

Hi,
For local Resource Persons, coordinators can consider following people from Andhra Pradesh:

Prof. Vijay Kumar, Department of English, Osmania University

Prof. Rajeswar Rao, Department of English, Kakathiya University

Dr. K S Ramesh, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Adi Kavi Nannayya University

Apart from these, following HCU faculty would be apt for our seminar theme:

Prof. Kulkarni, Department of Philosophy

Prof. Raghu Rama Raju, Department of Philosophy

Prof. Shashiji Hegde, Department of sociology

Prof. Sudhakar Reddy, Center for Folk culture Studies

Prof. Pramod K Nayar, Department of English

And I request the coordinators to conduct a meeting as soon as possible to decide local Resource Persons and other issues instead dragging the issue further through mails. So that we can settle things at once in few hours.
Thank you.

Dear all,
I second Vamshi's opinion about the meeting because personally speaking (and i don't mean this in a bad way), it's really not okay to let things remain misunderstood. Frictions and differences are always a part of such big events and i am sure our coordinators are above these things and will not let this affect their work. As far as i know, chai and samosas are almost like an incentive for CCL students to attend seminars and talks, So with all due respect to anybody who feels otherwise, I don't think there is anything wrong with discussing work over dinner.

If that query is directed to me, then yes, Prof. Kancha Ilaiah is very much local resource person. But he and his ideas are quiet known and already quite popular among scholars of various universities, who are coming to our RAW.CON. So I thought its better to look for new people. Moreover we hardly listened to scholars from Andhra Pradesh state universities. Hence I gave three scholars from three different universities.
