Hello all,

On August 3rd, Ambassador Nkengasong hosted a townhall for civil society to provide some updates on the results PEPFAR has achieved to date, and the PowerPoint presentation is attached. Additionally, Ambassador Nkengasong did answer any questions from the broader community.

As part of the Q and A portion, Doug Fountain. Executive for Christian Connections for International Health asked the following question, "Part of PEPFAR's success is due to strong *faith-based engagement* in many countries; but I'm not sure that I'm clear how you'd see that faith actors on the national as well as the global stage can accelerate progress. What are we doing well that we should do more? What do we need to address to do better? More work on stigma? More work on youth?

Ambassador Nkengason's response was to highlight the importance of addressing stigma, working with the youth, and combating discrimination - FBO’s played a critical role and have evidence on their role - being a megaphone of trust - we also say this most recently with reluctance of vaccination with COVID for example -people were hesitant but were more trustful of vaccine after endorsed by church leaders. Ambassador Nkengasong then highlighted his recent trip to Tanzania, where the youth he spoke with said the churches need to be involved in promoting these programs. He was very happy to hear feedback because adolescents and youth are a key demographic and how they spoke to the role of FBOs.

If there are any questions or additional information would be useful, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thanks!

BN
