It seems that there wont be a CCIDPIP quorum at CDSSP. I expect we can meet at APA in August.
It may be helpful for us to be updated on what is going at each other's programs.

So let me start:
At Yeshiva: we are in the midst of a search for a new faculty member. One of our senior faculty, Dr. Barbara Gerson is retiring after 40 year at Ferkauf. We are interviewing candidates who have school and clinical experience (seems appropriate).
We are also in the midst of putting together our Self-Study for APA. Its due in April for a site visit next fall. We are using the new SOA and hope this is the every last one that I write.

Happy New Year

Hi folks, Happy New Year!

Here at James Madison U’s Psy.D. program we’re also up for reaccreditation. We submitted the self-study under the new SoA’s in September and just heard that we’ve been approved for a site visit – likely occurring in the next couple months. The new SoA’s come with a new online portal for submitting the self-study but all seems to be going relatively smoothly (he says, keeping from awareness all the trouble, effort, hand-wringing, mind-reading that went into the thing) - mainly there have been the annoyances of a learning curve for new technology, plus the additional hassles of trying to understand and speak to new SoA’s after having spent the last 7 yrs under the old framework (the language all sounds so much the same, but clearly there are deep implications to the changes). In any case, so far, so good. Combined-Integrated training is still explicitly referred to as part of the SoA scope. You may already know this too - there is a shift of language away from ‘professional psychology’ to ‘health service psychology’ along with some explanatory detail and references – in some respects this is no change at all (the training I went to emphasized there’s no advantage to adopting that language, and no disadvantage to not adopting it) – but we it aligns well with our integrative philosophy and approach (and suspect it was borrowed from some of the C-I conference conversation back when). That’s all comforting to us.

Otherwise, we’re business as usual. Students growing and thriving along with their adult and child clients; gearing up now for the new semester, and then interview season for new students. You know how it goes.

Peace, Ken C.

Hi All,

I hope everyone is having a good start to 2017!  I am “new kid on the block” in this group.  I just took over as DCT at Florida State University.  I know that I have big shoes to fill following after Dr. Steve Pfeiffer.

Here’s the FSU program update:  Our program is going through quite a bit of transitions.  We have three faculty retiring in May:  Drs. Jim Sampson, Janet Lenz, and Frances Prevatt.  Drs. Sampson and Lenz were assigned half-time to our program, meaning we will be down a total of 2 FTE positions.  We are currently searching for a school psychology faculty to replace Dr. Prevatt (although I don’t think we can truly “replace” her).  At this point it doesn’t look like we will getting another line, so we will down 1 faculty FTE next academic year.  The timing of this is unfortunate since I will be working on our self-study this summer.  I am certain I will be seeking advice from the group since this will be my first APA self-study (I’ve done CACREP self-study before but not APA).  I look forward to meeting all of you this coming year.  Any advice you can give me on taking over as DCT or completing the self-study will be greatly appreciated!

Take Care,
Deborah

Hi all,

Here are some updates from the University at Buffalo’s combined Counseling Psychology/School Psychology program:

We have had 2 faculty members depart (LeAdelle Phelps and Abiola Dipeolu) and we have had the good fortune of being able to hire 3 faculty members (Myles Faith, Bridget Hier, and Hanna Suh) in the past couple of years. Under Amy Reynolds’ leadership, we have curriculum committees working on revising our competencies and outcomes in alignment with the new SOA in the areas of Clinical, Assessment, Research, and Professional Practice. We are also attempting to link all aspects of program (practicum evaluation, annual review process, advisement, comprehensive exam, portfolio, etc.) to our revised aims/competencies/elements.

I think those are the major things – we are also about to search for a new dean for the Graduate School of Education.

Best,

Amanda
