Department of Psychology
The University of South Alabama Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track position in Clinical or Counseling Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning on August 15, 2023. Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, have completed an internship from an APA-accredited program, and must be licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Alabama or must be license-eligible and receive the license within the first year of employment. ABD candidates will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor, but an earned doctoral degree is required prior to August 15, 2023. We have a unique APA-accredited doctoral program that combines clinical and counseling psychology (CCP), using a combined-integrated model (for more details, see CCP program website at https://www.southalabama.edu/colleges/graduateschool/ccp/). We emphasize science-practice integration and promoting culturally competent clinical practice. Other priority areas in our CCP program include injury prevention, trauma and resilience, and community engagement. The ability to strengthen partnerships with the USA College of Medicine and/or community organizations is highly valued. The successful candidate for this tenure-track position will be expected to maintain an active research program and mentor students in our Ph.D. and undergraduate programs.
The University of South Alabama is located in Mobile, Alabama, on the Gulf of Mexico, and has an attached medical school and affiliated healthcare system. Roughly 500,000 persons reside within a 25-mile radius of downtown Mobile. We are ethnically diverse, attracting students from all over the world.
