Hi all,
Hope everyone is well and I wish you all best regards as you are winding down the semester.
At our April 1 meeting CCIDPIP membership decided to hold elections for open positions this summer.
The following positions are up for election this summer:
---3 Board positions
The following board members are carrying on from last year:
Board member Jennifer Aube
Board member Angela Mousse
Board member Don Marks
* A few notes:
You can review the CCIDPIP bylaws online, here:
https://psyc.jmu.edu/cipsyd/ccidpip/bylaws.htmlWe have not been fully following the bylaws when it comes to elections (though we have done our best given the present circumstances, I believe). I want to share some further details regarding the CCIDPIP bylaws and governing process, to provide clarity regarding the roles and expectations of joining the CCIDPIP Executive Board (which I will refer to as "Board" moving forward).
We have two board members whose terms are expiring (mine and Shane's). We never filled Ken's spot last fall. Thus we will have 3 board positions open this summer to be filled.
Board positions
Board membership is a two year commitment, and board members can run for
re-election when their term is up. The board generally has 1-2
meetings a year, beyond the 3 general CCIDPIP meetings we typically
hold annually. In terms of time commitment, it is important to note that
being a board member is different from being an officer.
Here are some further details on the Board position (WHich I am copying and pasting directly from the bylaws):
- Members of the Board shall be limited to those individuals representing, at the time of their election, membership in the Consortium. Only members are eligible to be nominated and elected for Board membership; only Board members have voting privileges on Board affairs. The Board shall serve as the governing body of the Consortium and conduct its business at meetings, or by correspondence, and report its actions, or represent the membership to take action, at the Annual Business Meeting.
Officer Positions:Board members choose officer positions within CCIDPIP. This is done after board membership is decided. To be clear, Officer positions are elected through the executive board. Officer positions will be selected by the new board at the Annual Business Meeting in the late summer or early fall (which often falls during APA Conference in early August). Officers (e.g., Secretary, Treasurer, Chair) are appointed by the board. They CAN be board members, or can be general CCIDPIP members (so the board can solicit officers from beyond the executive board). Here are some additional details on the officer positions, from the bylaws:
- The Board convenes during the regular Annual Business Meeting of the Consortium each year to elect a Secretary, a Treasurer, and a Survey Coordinator from its own membership to serve until the conclusion of the next Annual Business Meeting of the Consortium; the Chairperson is elected every other year by the Board during the Annual Board Meeting. Based upon the needs and objectives of the Consortium, other Board members may assume specific duties or roles that are assigned to them by the Board. Board members serve two-year terms, and may run for re-election upon completion of their term.
Joining the Board:
Please consider running for a Board position or nominating a colleague to do so. We will keep the nomination process open for a month (so until the last Sunday of May, 05/29). Please reach out to me or any board members/officers with any questions about the roles and responsibilities of the position.
Here is a link to self-nominate or to nominate a colleague from any CCIDPIP program:
Thank you and all the best,
Aaron
