INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE
IN THE ECCC PRE-TRIAL CHAMBER HEARING
11, 12 and 15 February
2010
The Pre-Trial Chamber of the ECCC has scheduled a Public Hearing of the appeals
against extension of provisional detention by the accused Ieng Sary, Khieu
Samphan and Ieng Thirith, respectively, starting on 11 February 2010. The
Chamber has decided to permit a live feed of the proceedings to be given to
radio and television stations for public broadcast. Media representatives
and the general public are also invited to attend in person.
Thursday, 11 February: Ieng Sary’s case
Friday, 12 February: Khieu Samphan’s case
Monday, 15 February: Ieng Thirith’s case
The hearings will commence at 09.00 am on the each scheduled day and on any
subsequent days set by the judges. All people must be in their designated seats
30 minutes before the opening of the session. It is recommended to arrive at
the ECCC between 7:30 am and 8:00 am in order to leave enough time for security
check and issuance of tickets. Gates will close by 8.45am or when all seats in
the court room are fully
occupied.
All persons seeking admission to the ECCC must present a proof of
identification (including a photo) and must pass through a security check.
Please note that no persons under 16 years of age will be admitted to the
court. No mobile phones, large bags, food or drink will be permitted in the
main court room.
Individual members of the general public are encouraged to register in advance
and will be seated on a first come, first served basis. The majority of the
public gallery’s 500 seats are reserved for Civil Parties and villagers
from provinces who will be transported by the court and NGOs.
Transport: the ECCC will provide
free buses for the media and public who do not have their own means of
transport from downtown Phnom Penh
to the ECCC and return. Buses will leave from in front of the main Phnom Penh
Railway Station between 7.30 and 8.00am on each day of the hearing. Advance
registration is required.
The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia are situated in Chaom Chau,
16 kilometres away from Phnom Penh,
on the left hand side of National Route 4. Public visitors and media representatives
please enter from the Visitors Gate at the eastern end of the compound.
Facilities - Drinking water will be provided in the hallway outside the court
room. No food or drink is allowed in the court room. Food will be available for
purchase at the public canteen.
Toilets are provided in the court building and the car park.
Parking will be provided for visitors to the ECCC with their own buses or cars.
Assistance for those with disabilities will be provided, including wheelchair
access.
