Hello attendees for the April 23 CrisisCamp SoCal,
We are looking forward to coming together this coming Saturday! We have RSVPs from a number of volunteers, emergency managers, public information officers, academics, mobile app developers and local media, among others.
Our Spring Camp is an opportunity to learn more about ongoing emergency preparedness and response efforts, the threats before us in Southern California, and to identify opportunities to collaborate across sectors and cities to develop tools, partnerships and strategies to meet these challenges.
Please review the wiki for a draft agenda. In the spirit of the CrisisCommons, we encourage you to edit it.
Also, below the agenda is a section for all of us to propose breakout session topics and projects. If there is an app, an idea, a Youtube video or anything else that you would like to explore with others, please propose it on the wiki (if you are not comfortable using a wiki, please email ch...@crisiscommons.org).
Also, for those new to CrisisCamp, there was a front page article on USA Today last week which gives a nice overview of how people across the world are coming together at events like these.
Los Angeles and Santa Barbara had a few gatherings like this in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti in 2010. Here is a video that was created at a camp at USC.
We will order pizza for lunch and have coffee, snacks and drinks all day. Please bring a few dollars if you can to help cover these costs.
We face tremendous threats in Southern California from many kinds of man-made and natural hazards. Maximizing our preparedness and leveraging the diverse skill sets and passions of our attendees can make a significant difference in the lives of millions of people. Our Spring Camp will be as great as we all make it. Please feel free to email your suggestions or post them on the wiki before Saturday.
See you soon!
