I am writing today to encourage you to vote in NCA’s election for 2nd Vice President. There are two candidates: Christie Beck from Ohio University and Roseann Mandziuk from Texas State University. I attended the forum at NCA where both candidates spoke about their vision and answered many questions from the audience. I asked three questions about community colleges and felt, overwhelmingly, that one candidate was more interested in and open to community college issues and concerns. That candidate was Roseann Mandziuk. Prof. Beck admitted that she has no experience with community colleges while Prof. Mandziuk teaches at an institution that is loaded with community college transfers. Additionally, she was open to ideas and seemed genuinely willing to listen to us and our perspective on various issues. I might also remind all of you that she was the only candidate who took the time to attend our 7am business meeting (both days!) to introduce herself and attended our community college reception. I invited Prof. Beck and she told me she had prior commitments on both days—I’m not sure what they were as the convention programming didn’t begin until 8am but that is what she told me. Obviously, I can’t dictate to anyone how to vote; but as someone who cares deeply about the Community College section and our future, I know that I have cast my vote for Roseann Mandziuk and encourage you to do so also.
Thanks!
