Dear Colleagues,

As we prepare for our upcoming business meetings at this year’s convention, I would like to announce this year’s call for officer nominations.  Traditionally, we have conducted the nomination process during our business meetings and while nominations will still be accepted during our first meeting on Friday, I thought it would be helpful to allow our members the opportunity to have some time to consider what the elected positions entail as well as who they might nominate for them.

The following positions are open for nominations:

Position: Vice-Chair Elect

Description:

  • Must be a current member of the Community College section
  •  Attend the Planners’ Meeting at the 2014 convention in Chicago
  • Plan the program for the 2015 convention in Las Vegas including sending out the call, coordinating submissions, assigning reviewers, etc.)
  • Write the Section report for 2015
  • Conduct the business meetings at the 2016 convention in Philadelphia
  • Attend Legislative Assembly meetings at the 2016 convention in Philadelphia

Position: Secretary

Description:

  • Must be a current member of the Community College section
  • Serves a one-year term
  • Record business meeting minutes
  • Prepare and distribute meeting minutes to section members

Position:  Nominating Committee (one representative from each of the four regions)

Description:

  • Must be a current member of the Community College section
  • Serves a one-year term
  • Prepare a slate of nominees for the offices of vice-chair elect and for secretary

Please make sure to get the approval of the person you wish to nominate before submitting his/her name.  Also, self-nominations are encouraged.  If you would like to nominate someone (or yourself) for any of these leadership positions, please forward the following information to Susan Ward (sw...@dccc.edu) by November 13, 2013:

1.      The desired position (i.e., vice-chair elect, secretary, nominating committee—include region)

2.      Nominee’s name, email address, mailing address, and phone number

Each candidate should be prepared to give a BRIEF statement at the second business meeting that addresses his/her qualifications for the position, reasons for seeking the position, and what he/she brings to the position.

Thank you, in advance, for considering serving the Community College Section.  More information about our business meetings and the reception will follow in the coming weeks.  I look forward to seeing you in DC!

Take care,

Susan
