Dear All,

Can existing CCDEs suggest some good readings on L2 designs and migrations other than CVDs Campus and DC sections.

The main problem I see here is that most of Cisco press books are written around Cisco's implementations and doesn't talk much about inter vendor and design part. Though it seems to be a valid case ( Design and Considerations requirements for multi vendor L2 (Campus) / DC Network or even ME/Carrier Ethernet based architecture for SP.

I have been studying JNCIA JUNOS for last couple of days and learned lot about how for example Juniper works differently compare to Cisco in terms of STP implementation and how to merge Cisco and Juniper based L2 network. And this is where the thought came into mind about above query even though DE lab might not ask me about such scenarios.

Hi Deepak,

Very fast answer would be , as a book I recommend you to take a look at CCDP ARCH by John Tisso. We are preparing the recommended reading list which will be straight to the point and cover only the specific resources with 2 more CCDEs and CCDE Program manager Elaine Lopes.

It will be coming out within couple months hopefully officially.

Hi Orhan,

I'm new to this group, but in reference to the below, has the recommended reading list been finalised?

Also planning to give the CCDE lab a crack in Nov 2015, hopefully I can covered it by then!

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Robert,

For the CCDE Written We prepared ( Andre Laurent , Virgilio Spaziani, Elaine Lopes ) a new recommended study list. ( Not reading only ) and it has been published on CLN and I have a blog post on http://orhanergun.net for that.

Same team, we are preparing the study resources this time for the practical but i should say that methodology which we are following is quite different and it will be so useful for the CCDE candidates. Probably it will take a couple months more but when it is announced , will be an excellent tool.

Cheers,
Orhan Ergun

Thanks Orhan,

I had a quick look, I'm a little surprise that the CLN and your blog list differ with the 'Highly recommended reading' sections, but most books are in both lists!

I'll be back in 2 years after I've read everything LOL

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Robert,

Of course they are different :) Since I indicated in the below of that post , I shared the old recommended list to show you how much book was there but I gave a link to the CLN since the official place of that preparation is Cisco. New list is on the CLN , in my post I shared the old list only then I gave a link to the CLN.

There are some really informative videos on ciscolive.com where you can download the accompanying slides on Layer 2 carrier technologies.

I have not yet attempted the exam but I would recommend that you become familiar with all the technologies included in the following presentation to get you started from the SP layer 2 perspective:

BRKSPG-2207 Redundancy Mechanisms for Carrier Ethernet and Layer 2 VPN Services

I found the following helpful from the enterprise perspective
BRKCRS-2031 Multilayer Campus Architectures and Design Principles

I think that the approach to studying these technologies is not to always study them in isolation.  The reason for this is because at the end of the day, the protocols all need to interoperate, so my take on it would be to look at examples as to how and where the various technologies would be implemented and then try to work out if they would work in a network design that consisted of various different technologies.

My 2 cents!

Cheers
