I just went through following material in last 3 days for DE prep considering EIGRP Design as one potential topic for DE lab.

> Routing TCP/IP Vol 1

> Optimal Routing Design

> Videos Sessions on EIGRP at Cisco Live

Now TCP/IP Vol 1 I went through to brush up the things again. While reason behind reading ORD was to get some tips on Design side of the protocol. But to my surprise EIGRP section was quite light. Also some of things like Unequal load balancing being part of design choice, EIGRP deployment in MPLS VPN Scenario, EIGRP lack for TE support should have been part of discussion IMHO.

Also recent developments like Wide Metric, Open Source, Address Family Structure , add path etc can be potential topics for DE lab ?

Any further resources or tips you would recommend for lab prep for eigrp part?

Also there are couple of CCDEs here in group. Can you guys put up some dummy case studies for other group members together per technology to get better idea about exam structure and feel. I know some CCDE wiki idea was there from Ethan but not sure how much progress team made in that direction.

I am currently not sure how hard this exam is really going to be but few things thats definitely contributing in that direction being lack of information publicly available, Lack of good and detailed blueprint, Lack of practice tests for self assessment.

I would request existing CCDEs to put their exp here to help other potential candidates

Are people still using EIGRP ?:) Just kidding..

On the topic of CCDE topics, I have finally started writing on PP's . I have few topics in my head which i want to write about and Daniel Dib mentioned few topics which he would like to see .

If you can send me the topics which you would like to see then I can put them on my list( contingent on the fact that I have the knowledge and interest ) .

I know there is definitely scarcity of resources when it comes to CCDE compared to other expert level cert but IMHO it's actually more fun this way. During the process of researching about a topic I will stumble upon lot more things then If I would have just followed a workbook considering one existed (hypothetically). At that point it's upto your curiosity and hunger on how deep you want to go .  This will help me in becoming more aware and a better engineer then just learning enough to pass the exam.I am not saying that you still can't do your own research in addition to what a work book covers but then at that point it becomes optional.
(Please understand  that my comments are reflections of my opinion and are not directed towards anybody )

Thanks

Though I agree that reason behind study process is to learn stuff instead of just passing exam but setting up clear guidelines from exam purpose is still an important factor IMHO since although CCDE is a design exam but it majorly focus on some specific technologies under network technologies umbrella not all.

Similarly while most people may argue on picking up OSPF as Routing protocol per se for Enterprise Network Design but personally I would prefer it to be EIGRP if it's a Cisco shop. IMHO OSPF is much more complicated as a protocol and even though most professional level engineers (majority) while may think they know it very well I seriously doubt that from my personal experience.

In today's world where more and more enterprises are moving towards MPLS Layer 3 VPNs adoption, it eventually breaks the overall network equation into smaller chunks (silo based) design which means factors like scalability works little differently or perhaps have different meaning/requirements and factors as most SP will only allow you to run BGP and Static routes as PE-CE protocol choice, so end to end network is highly unlikely going to be pure IGP implementation.

But eventually I am newbie to CCDE Track and I know I have long way to go :) . I don't care if it's gonna take long time to prepare for this exam as most important part is I am enjoying the journey so far. Also I am happy to have friends like you, Daniel Dib and others to help and assist me with this journey.

At the same time I would request CCDE community to be more active on this group and packet pushers through their articles, detailed design discussion and perhaps some dummy case studies sometimes ? :)
