Hello all,

We have quite a few goals at Cerro Coso Community College to help improve our senate's functionality and better codify our roles and responsibilities. The first of these goals is to revise our constitution, standing rules, and bylaws to ensure they align with the practices we actually use and our participatory governance model, as well as to improve our own functionality and transparency.

Obviously, this is a big undertaking, and we are looking to propose a two day working retreat for our Executive Council to get the work done in preparation for presentation/approval from the Senate as a whole. My question for you all who have undertaken similarly lofty projects for senate, have you sought funding support from your colleges? Is there already funding for participatory governance set aside at your colleges? What funding sources have you been able to secure for these sorts of projects?

Thank you for any insight you might have!

Given that regulations and Ed Code establish that senates are instruments of the board, established and empowered by the board, fulfilling required accreditation duties for the board, developing curriculum and programs for the board, and etc. it would be illogical for the board to not support critical activities of the senate like updating operational documents like a constitution and bylaws.

I would argue that in cases where boards do not support senate critical activities this should clearly be noted in any and all accreditation reporting.

Just my two cents worth, hopefully your board has more than that.
