Dear all:

LibreFest 2026 begins next Monday! We welcome the entire open education community to join us for a week of learning, collaboration, and innovation across the LibreVerse.

Since 2020, the week-long LibreFest conference has served as the annual centerpiece of the LibreTexts community. As this community has grown, so has LibreFest. In addition to hands-on workshops, LibreFest will feature presentations, community showcases, panel discussions, and collaborative sessions that highlight the latest innovations in open education, artificial intelligence, accessibility, assessment, and the expanding LibreVerse ecosystem.

Continuing the tradition of previous LibreFests, we'll cover the core foundations of the LibreVerse ecosystem (https://launchpad.libretexts.org), including creating and maintaining OER textbooks in the LibreTexts libraries, which are now home to more than 1.8 million pages of openly licensed educational content and growing rapidly. LibreFest participants will also explore the ADAPT homework platform, including adoption, authoring, and contribution to its public community question bank; the Jupyter infrastructure for computer science, data science, and computational courses; and Forge, our long-form writing environment designed to support effective writing, revision, and soon AI-assisted feedback.

This year we will have a robust set of user-adopter-builders present showcasing their effort and for the first time, we will run multiple tracks for part of the conference. We'll also be unveiling a number of new open-source technologies that expand the capabilities of the LibreVerse ecosystem, including:

  • Remixer 3.0: the next generation of our textbook remixing platform.
  • Glossary Manager: integrated with the Remixer to automatically generate and manage textbook glossaries, with citation and reference management being added later this month
  • Shapeshift: our completely redesigned PDF generation system, built to produce modern, highly readable, and accessibility-focused documents.
  • Ask Benny: an AI-powered, Socratic learning assistant that ingests your LibreTexts materials and answers student questions by referencing the content of your textbook directly.
  • License Restacker: a first-of-its-kind licensing analysis tool that evaluates licensing at the book, page, and individual content levels to help authors and remixers ensure proper attribution and license compatibility across complex OER projects.

And that's just the beginning. We're excited to see the LibreVerse continue to mature into a comprehensive educational infrastructure. As a nonprofit initiative, our goal is to build sustainable infrastructure that empower educators and institutions while keeping students at the center to provide a long-term alternative to commercial platforms that place profit ahead of educational impact.

Registration for LibreFest 2026 is now open, and we invite everyone in the open education community to join us.

If you cannot make it, we will post videos of our presentations on our youtube channel: https://youtube.libretexts.org.

We look forward to seeing you at LibreFest 2026 this year!

Regards,
Delmar
