Good afternoon!

Has anyone run across any OER on Blockchain or SmartContract that they are using? I have a department looking to create a course and would like to use OER.

Thanks!

So I taught a masters-level course on blockchains for which I built an informal OER (I sometimes make OER that are really just complicated web pages (openly licensed) packed with information and links and miniprojects (I often teach in a problem-based learning mode)) that would have lots of material that could be used for a (more formal) OER on blockchains.  There are also large sections of two other OER which I've written (one on number theory with applications to cryptology, and one directly on cryptology, a Pythonic, problem-based approach) that might be usefully remixed into a new blockchain OER.

Maybe put me in contact with these colleagues of yours and I can work out if there is anything I can contribute to their project?

best,
Jonathan

Hi Cindy,

One of our OEGlobal Board members, Perrine de Coëtlogon, is in charge of Blockchain & Open Education within the Directorate for Pedagogical Innovation of the University of Lille and represents France within the European Blockchain Partnership. They run a a Blockchain, Open Education & Digital Citizenship conference (https://blockchaineducationfrance.fr/programme/) and (https://eraser.medium.com/blockchain-open-education-digital-citizenship-eac61c051134). I expect many of the speakers may have OER related to this topic.

Rory McGreal, a UNESCO OER chair, is also working on the topic of OER and Blockchain and will be presenting on this at the upcoming OEGlobal online conference at the end of September.

Alexander Mikroyannidis is also working on this and will be presenting on Decentralising Open Education Using Blockchain Technology at the OEGlobal online conference in September.

I'm not sure to what extent these folks actually have OER on Blockchain but worth exploring.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Brian Barrick shared a wealth of resources that I am passing on to the entire listserv:

  • Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System – Satoshi Nakamoto (2008)
The original Bitcoin white paper that solves the double-spend problem of previous attempts at digital currency.  Available under an MIT Public License.

  • Grokking Bitcoin – Kalle Rosenbaum
This is an approachable book covering topics about the blockchain, bitcoin transactions, mining, wallets, etc.  It is available in print version from Manning Publications or in a free and open source format on Github.

  • Mastering Bitcoin – Andreas Antonopoulos (2017)
This book includes both broad information for a non-technical audience, as well as a deeper technological description of how the Bitcoin network functions.  It is available in print from O’Reilly Media and for free in a Creative Commons license on Github.

  • Mastering the Lightning Network – Andreas M. Antonopoulos, Olaoluwa Osuntokun and Rene Pickhardt (2021)
This book describes the Lightning Network, which is a layer 2 scaling solution for the Bitcoin protocol which enables near-instant transaction settlement.  The book is currently in production and has not been finished, but the drafts are freely available under a Creative Commons license.  A print edition will be available later this year through O’Reilly Media.

  • The Internet of Money, Vol. 1 – Andreas Antonopoulos (2016)

Of course, there are many more free resources available on these topics.  If there are any specific topics you are looking for, I am sure that OER materials could be identified.  Perhaps one of you would be willing to post this list of resources to the Google Group?  My email address is hend...@laccd.edu

Sincerely,
