The RIOS community cordially invites you to our (free) RIOS Brew and Banter session this Thurs, Oct 2, 1:00pm ET.Brew and Banter (we affectionally refer to it as B&B) is RIOS’ monthly virtual series where community members come together for informal conversations about current topics in STEM education. Each session offers a chance for attendees to share updates, spark new ideas, and learn from one another in a relaxed, welcoming space. This semester's series kicks off with the amazing Desiree Forsythe and Meg Jones, who will be leading a session called "Difficult Dialogues in a Difficult Time."This session will explore Difficult dialogues of social inequities in STEM classrooms. Instructors engaging students in diverse STEM content should possess the language and tools to enact difficult dialogues. It is critical for these instructors to be intellectually and emotionally ready to enact that facilitation. Put differently, it is simply not enough to provide instructors with diversified STEM course materials, it is also important for the instructors themselves to be comfortable with the scholarship pertaining to marginalization as it provides the appropriate framing and contextualization for those materials. We will situate what difficult dialogues means to us in today's current climate and open the session up to the audience to for casual conversation on the topics.Register for the session today!

Hope to see you there!
Karen
