Abstract: Social annotation (also known as collaborative annotation) is a learning tool in which students comment on shared electronic resources. Social annotation is a promising open educational practice as the licensing of open educational resources
allows for flexibility and student engagement in co-creation of knowledge. In this session, we will learn about social annotation tools, the research evidence supporting the use of social annotation, and examples for incorporating social annotation into courses.
These examples will range from straightforward implementation of social annotation to engage students in course materials to having students use social annotation to collaborate with the instructor to update an open textbook.
