In this session of the OER Under the Hood webinar series, Pressbooks is teaming up with the Community College Consortium for OER (CCCOER), to explore how open educational resources can be used to support hands-on, career-focused learning in vocational and technical fields.
Our featured project will be Introduction to Welding, a richly illustrated open textbook developed through the Washington Open ProfTech project. Created by experienced instructors, the book introduces students to welding careers, safety practices, tools, welding techniques, cutting processes, inspection, and materials—designed to meet the needs of learners and align with real-world industry expectations.

Join CCCOER’s new From the Field series - a fresh, conversational approach to webinars. Each session begins with a brief 15-20 minute presentation from a CCCOER member or partner, highlighting a project, practice, or experience from the field. We then open the floor for discussion. Come to listen, stay to connect. Whether you’re curious or simply looking for new ideas, these sessions are designed to spark meaningful dialogue and showcase the great work happening across our community.
In this inaugural session, Open Education Instructional Designer Veronica Vold (she/her) will feature equity-minded design choices from the Open Curriculum Development Project. Over the last four years, Open Oregon Educational Resources collaborated with author teams and instructors to create 12 openly licensed textbooks and course ancillaries in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), Sociology, and Criminal Justice. Come away with key project resources and concrete examples to adapt in your own OER.

Introducing CCCOER’s Open Exchange, an informal, discussion-focused webinar series designed for peer-to-peer dialogue. Each session revolves around a single question or topic shared in advance, giving participants time to reflect and come prepared to engage. To ensure a safe space for open conversation, sessions will not be recorded; instead, a brief summary or key takeaways will be shared afterward.
This is a space to bring your coffee, tea, or snack, and engage with colleagues in candid conversation about challenges, ideas, and experiences in your Open Education work. Before our first session in November, we’ll invite the community to suggest questions and topics to guide the discussion. Be on the lookout for a survey!
