Rethinking Power: Preventing Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG)
Job Description: Local Activism Officers (2)
(2 positions- 1 male preferred and 1 female preferred)

Organization Profile:
The organization is a faith-based Haitian non-profit organization
dedicated to promoting peace and justice by providing transformative
learning experiences that bring people together across economic,
cultural, educational divisions and that equips communities to care
for their most vulnerable members.

Position Profile:
An organization based in Jacmel, Haiti is seeking two dynamic Local
Activism Officers, preferably one female and one male, for the
Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) program. Local Activism
Officers will implement SASA! An Activist Kit for Preventing Violence
against Women and HIV, mobilizing communities in and around Jacmel to
take action to prevent domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual
exploitation, and other forms of VAWG. Officers will report to the
organization’s VAWG Program Manager.

Specific Responsibilities include:

• Design and implement all Local Activism activities.
• Select a team of men and women to work as community activists
against violence against women and girls and HIV.
• Train, support and supervise community activists.
• Develop positive relationships with the community activists, leaders
and community groups.
• Organize seminars and give support to opinion leaders in the
community.
• Work closely with local and opinion leaders in the community and
give support to enable the creation of supportive environment for
women experiencing domestic violence in the community.
• Organize and manage public events such as, sports, vigils and
celebrations at the community level.
• Assist in adaptation and translation of SASA! and other program
materials, as needed.
• Provide technical support to other sectors.
• Monitor all Local Activism activities in the community.
• Implement and coordinate activities as planned by the Local Activism
department.
• Work at least 40 hours per week.
• Adhere to all administrative, financial and management policies of
the organization.
• Provide timely comprehensive reports as stipulated by organization
and donor requirements.
• Work as a team member with all staff at the organization.
• Represent the organization in various forums.
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the VAWG Program Coordinator
or organization Director.

Experience and Background
• At least three years experience in human rights work.
• Respected, known and with professional and grassroots links in
Jacmel and surrounding areas and/or Port au Prince.
• Demonstrate commitment and passion for women’s rights and working on
violence.
• A holder of degree in a relevant field.
• Self motivated and displays initiative.
• Knowledge and awareness of gender issues.
• Fluent in Haitian Creole, with working knowledge of French.
