Dear Partners,

Following the request from the Government of Haiti on February 22nd,
seconded by mr John Holmes, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian
Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, the EU Civil Protection team
was deployed to Haiti aiming to facilitate the involvement of military
assets provided by EU Member States into the Humanitarian assistance.
As of date a French contingent composed by 200 engineers and roughly
120 vehicles including lorries, truck, digger, ground movement
machinery, offered its availability. A recognition team is already in
Haiti to identify possible activities to carry on during approximately
two months of mission, starting on second half of march. Members of
the EU Civil Protection Team will attend shelter cluster and CCCM
meeting on Friday and will be available to explain mission details and
technical capabilities. The general purpose is to make such resources
available for any program related to debris removal, ground
preparation for shelters settlements, shelters building, buildings
recovery/reconstruction both for housing and for public services
(schools, library, religious place, museums, markets…).
