I'm looking to export some layers of a model from Hexagon so I can print at full scale, make a template, and cut out the shapes.

I've tried exporting the layers as STL or DXF files and converting to PDF but it seems to throw off the dimensions.

Anyone have a method they prefer?

TIA!

There is a tool called "cut into slices" built into Hexagon

the tool is on the tab "utilities" and tool is called "cut into slices"

Screen shots attached...

Also there is an app at http://www.123dapp.com/make that does this exact thing also its called 123d Make.
tutorials for this is on their site

Actually, I was looking to print the DXF's on paper so I could make a template and manually cut the parts out of masonite. They're for a larger structure. I've already created the slices and exported as STL and DXF files. I just need an accurate way of printing them on paper.

Thougths?

Poster printer. OR CNC machine. How big? How many slices.

So what do you plan on printing them from...  do you have some sort printing file program that will let you open and measure the DXF files... if not consider Inkscape and measure your parts in hexagon and scale the parts in inkscape to the size found in hexagon.
Or
Try "123d make"...  As I had mentioned

@Luis- I was looking to export to PDF so I could print on paper at work. Then cut out and paste together. I've exported each layer to separate STL's so It would be one layer per pdf file. Ideally, yes, I'd use the CNC at hammerspace to cut them out but I was looking for a low-tech option as I'm not sure when I can get back to the space.

@Tim- That's what I was looking for- some method of accurately converting a dxf or stl to PDF or something so I could print on paper using any standard printer. I will look at Inkscape.

If worse comes to worse, I'll just have to wait until I can make it down to the space.

Thanks all!

If it's too large for a single sheet, check out rasturbator  ( http://rasterbator.net/ )

how big is this?

Is it something that fits on 8.5 x 11?

Ultimately it's going to be the size of a medium sized dog.
1st Layer roughly 10"x24"
2nd layer ~ 10"x20"
3rd layer ~ 8"x18"
4th layer ~ 7"x 10"
5th layer ~ 6"x9"

Use 123d make - it will be seconds and it makes the PDF for you

Thanks Tim! It's been in my mind since the mid-80's. I'm still trying to come up with a name for the project. "Robo-Dog" seemed too clinical.
I'm leaning toward something like E.R.E.C. (Experimental Roving Electronic Canine) or F.R.E.D (Free Roving Electronic Dog)

Thoughts?
