Hi folks, 

The 7C committee co-chairs, me and Wendi Sierra, released a statement regarding our commitment to continuing the Computers & Writing Conference despite the de-chartering of CCCC.

Statement

As Conference on College Composition and Communication Committee on Computers in Composition and Communication (7Cs) co-chairs, Wendi Sierra and Charles Woods, we disagree with and are appalled by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) decision to de-charter the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), a decision which dismisses almost 80 years of disciplinary history, including the impact of the theorization and teaching of composition and communication with digital technologies for the last 40+ years. Of course, there is, rightly, significant concern about the future of the Computers & Writing Conference, which is governed by the 7Cs Committee. 

We wish to affirm our commitment to continue organizing the Computers and Writing Conference. The 2027 host, University of Arizona, was announced at the 2026 conference and plans are already underway, with details to be announced shortly. A call for 2028 and 2029 hosts will be posted in early August. 

While the organizational structure of our committee will change, our commitment to the Computers & Writing community and the rigorous study of digital technologies and their impact on composition and communication will not. Indeed, we see our role as scholars and teachers of digital rhetoric and writing as critical in this moment of Generative Artificial Intelligence. 

We look forward to seeing you in Tuscon in 2027!
